2006 - 2007
For the 2006-2007 academic year, CGC collaborated with Millennium Promise to design an investment vehicle for the funds that Millennium Promise collects in its efforts to achieve its mission. As part of our partnership, CGC spent over six months studying the existing African market to recommend a basic structure for an investment fund. CGC consultants were challenged with the question: what investments could promote the greatest economic value in underdeveloped countries?
The team targeted 10 candidate countries in order to design the fund for maximum impact, balancing social impact against financial return, determining the optimal investment strategy, and identifying the appropriate risk profile of each country. The consulting team ultimately presented their final report to Jeff Flug (CEO of Millennium Promise) and the board of directors.
Since CGC's presentation, Millennium Promise has already begun the recommended work with agriculture supply companies in Tanzania and Kenya. Selorm Klaye, one of the consulting team members, was also offered and accepted an internship with Millennium Promise. He spent the summer of 2007 continuing with CGC's initiative and even traveled to Kenya to complete work within the country.
